SAVE Haslar Hospital campaigners say results of a public consultation into NHS services in Fareham and Gosport should be dumped and the process restarted.

Members of Fareham and Gosport's Primary Care Trust came under fire from about 25 members of the public at a patients' forum meeting.

The meeting, to put together a report of patients' views on the consultation process, came ahead of a countywide health meeting to put the various plans under scrutiny.

Councillor Peter Edgar, spokesman for the Save Haslar Task Force, will urge Friday's meeting to call for are-run.

He said: "The public consultation is flawed. It seems to have been about them telling the public what they want, but they can't go on ignoring public feeling.

"They have used invalid figures and there has been no consultation whatsoever with the planners. They haven't considered enough ways of keeping their pledges. The public feel let down and I think they should have another look at it."

Pat Gulliford, from Fareham and Gosport Patient and Public Involvement Forum, added: "A lot of people who attended were interested in the fate of Haslar.

"We think (the forum members) were trying hard to get things across, but certain sections of the public are not confident in the transparency of the decision-making process."

Members of the forum will now report their observations to the PCT for comments before they are made public in two to three weeks' time.

A final decision on the proposals is due to be made by Fareham and Gosport's PCT on December 15.

Option one would see Haslar retained and a new Fareham Community Hospital built to replace Fareham Health Centre and Hill Park Clinic.

Option two would see community hospitals as the hub of services in both towns. Haslar would be lost.
