A POST-MORTEM on Southampton toddler Louie Bowers found that the youngster died after being overcome by fire fumes and smoke.
The 21-month-old became trapped in his home at Kingsclere Close, Weston, after a fire broke out in the bedroom that he shared with his elder brother.
He was found by firefighters but, despite their efforts, the youngster was pronounced dead on arrival at Southampton General Hospital early on Sunday.
Police are still trying to piece together how the fire started but say they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the blaze.
Both Louie's brother and older sister been interviewed by specially-trained officers in a bid to piece together what happened while fire investigators remained at the scene of the blaze yesterday.
Louie's mother, Lisa, 33, was not in the property but with a next-door-neighbour at the time the fire started. A 15-year-old babysitter was in charge of the children when the blaze broke out.
Weston resident Kevin Pearce has set up a donation box at Weston Wine off-licence in Wallace Road.
