SALISBURY'S Alan Blencowe saw his way to a fine win in the dark in the last Britcar Championship event of the season - the Brands Hatch night-race classic on Saturday.
Former Touring Car campaigner Blencowe teamed up with Mark Lemmer in the Barwell Motorsport Honda Civic to win the 90-minute event by just two seconds from Matt Jackson in a Ford Focus.
The Barwell team's victory came in class 3, where they also took third place through Simon Graves and Lemmer (who did two driver stints) in a Honda Accord.
Lemmer took the first stint in the Civic and showed the car's capabilities by scrapping with the rapid MG Judd of Anthony Reid, which was running a class higher.
Eventually the extra grunt of the MG told and Reid pulled away, but the Civic was leaving the rest of the class 3 field, including a powerful BMW M3 and a Honda Integra Type R, in his wake.
When Lemmer handed over to Blencowe after 40 minutes, he was 13 seconds to the good. The young Salisbury driver was soon into a good rhythm and actually increased his lead until Fiona Leggate buried the MG Judd into the gravel trap at Paddock Hill Bend and the safety car came out.
Suddenly Blencowe's lead was down to just a few seconds and he had to endure an anxious finish as the leading BMW began dropping differential fluid, forcing Blencowe into a some lurid slides.
But he held on to win by two seconds from Jackson and also claimed sixth place overall in a field of 31.
