The Beta Band The BIC, Bournemouth
SOME bands explode on to the stage and literally shake their audience from start to finish.
Others will take dedicated fans on a journey through a collection of their finest moments and reveal hidden talents never truly expressed through studio recordings.
At the start of the farewell tour, the Beta Band falls into the latter.
They easily take those familiar with their unique sound from a safe, harmonic place, into a rock out finish with some great duelling percussion between band members.
The problem is to the unseasoned member, it takes a while before the band effectively reels you in as each song slowly seeps into another.
Popular tracks including Dry The Rain and Squares add credibility from their prominence in movie soundtracks, giving any outsiders something to identify with, while new track Assessment offers a taste of attitude that unfortunately never really breaks out to its full potential.
The Beta Band has an incredibly versatile musical talent that is both original and enjoyable, but for those who are not familiar, it can be a long wait until the thrills kick in.
There isn't that much on offer that the album doesn't already provide.
