THERE were fresh reports today that Harry Redknapp could be about to lose his trusted No 2 Jim Smith.
Redknapp has endured a tough time in the last week following the arrival of executive director Velemir Zajec.
Redknapp continues to deny his job is in danger at Fratton Park, but speculation suggests Smith could be about to resign.
Redknapp and former Yugoslavia captain Zajec did not speak at Saturday's game against Manchester City despite sitting one seat from each other in the main stand, separated only by chairman Milan Mandaric.
After Redknapp objected vehemently to the title of director of football, Zajec was named as executive director and attached to the club's main board which previously only comprised Mandaric, publisher Terry Brady and TV personality Fred Dinenage.
Asked whether he had talked to Zajec, the manager said: "No. What about? His job doesn't have anything to do with mine."
Zajec claimed he would be involved in all facets of the club's development: "The stadium, the academy and the first team. I will be everywhere," he has said.
