THE best ever. That was the verdict on Fareham's Christmas lights switch- on.
A glittering firework display, Christingle parade and of course Father Christmas helped ensure the Sunday evening event launched Fareham fully into festive mode.
Wave 105 presenter Dave Perry compered the event which featured speeches from Peter Hall, vicar of the town's St John's Church, and David Swanbrow, Mayor of Fareham.
The sound of Christmas favourites including Jingle Bells, Away In A Manger and Hark The Herald Angels Sing rang around West Street.
Hundreds of people flocked to the town centre to watch the stars of this year's Christmas pantomime Cin-derella join Cllr Swanbrow, Mr Hall, the Wave 105 crew and Father Christmas flick the switch and light up Fareham's streets with flashing festive displays.
Funfair rides for youngsters added to the seasonal cheer.
Mr Perry, who has compered at the switch-on for the last five years, said: "This year's was the best yet. The fireworks were fantastic and the whole thing went very smoothly. It was brilliant."
Fareham residents Steve and Julie Hain, with their young twins Joshua and Megan, both four, were impressed.
"We have never been to the switch-on before, but it was great," Steve said. "We will definitely come along next year. The kids loved it."
