TABLE-PROPPERS AFC Aldermaston sprang a shock with an amazing 6-2 victory at Alresford Town.
The Berkshire side - who had lost 15 of their previous 16 league games - climbed off the bottom after sampling the sweet taste of six-cess.
"The difference is that we've been able to put a settled side out for the last three games and we played some excellent football today," smiled Aldermaston boss Steve Kirby.
Aldermaston - unlucky to lose to Poole on penalties in the Wessex League Cup on Wednesday - were indebted to doubles from James O'Keefe and Andy Ramsden, plus Barry Smith and Ian Cadman singles.
Locks Heath missed to chance to move four points clear of second-placed Lymington Town when they drew 0-0 with fourth-placed Shaftesbury.
Romsey Town retained their grip on third berth after coming from behind at sixth-placed Stockbridge to squeeze home 4-3. The hosts led 3-1 courtesy of a Ryan Boere double and Paul Coppin before two-goal Simon De'Ath, an own goal and a Paul Smith strike on 80 minutes rescued Trevor Holmes's men.
Petersfield maintained their winning streak 4-1 against Ringwood Town at Love Lane. Gavin Keogh gave Petersfield a 12th-minute lead which brother Barry tripled with two close-range finishes after 55 and 62 minutes.
Ringwood reduced the arrears on 74 minutes but, within a minute, Andy Wilson had made it 4-1.
Poole Town manager Tommy Killick was satisfied with his team's 2-0 win at Whitchurch United.
"It wasn't brilliant but it was OK in what were very poor conditions," he reflected.
Debutant Michael Walker, signed from Dorchester Town, put Dolphins ahead after 20 minutes with Anthony Warrington latching onto Neil Spalding's through ball to make 2-0 after 65 minutes.
Hythe & Dibden also enjoyed a 2-0 success at home to US Portsmouth, courtesy of goals in the first and last minutes. Ian Harvey netted from an opening-minute penalty after he had been pushed and Roger Maynard grabbed a second from a late corner.
Hythe manager Dave Cox smiled: "I don't think I've ever been at a match where the referee has given a penalty in the first minute - it was a definite penalty but I couldn't believe he'd given it!"
Matches between Amesbury and East Cowes, Bishop's Waltham and Blackfield and Brading and Andover NS fell victim to the weather.
