RESIDENTS in Southampton have spoken of their relief after police shut down an alleged brothel.
Officers carried out a raid at an address in Anglesea Road, Shirley, following complaints from neighbours, it was revealed in later editions of yesterday's Daily Echo.
Hampshire police vice squad officers seized property from within the house and also carried out a search at a home in Totton.
People living nearby explained they had often seen men loitering around the area at various times throughout the day.
A resident, who did not wish to be named, said: "We don't want that kind of thing happening here. We've only recently moved here so why should we have to move again just because of what they're doing?
"I suppose it's the kind of thing that could happen in any street."
Andrew and Marion Brooke moved to the area six months ago.
Mr Brooke said: "We realised what was going on a little while ago but it hasn't really affected us that much.
"There are often people loitering about outside and when you're out there it can be quite intimidating."
Johnny Hannah has been living in Anglesea Road for four months said: "Someone had told me something was going on at that house but other than the rumours it wasn't really obvious.
"It doesn't really bother me what's going on there. It's a busy road and it doesn't shock me."
