Southampton Gymnastics Club and its satellite centres took a huge contingent to the Southern Region Sports Acrobatics and Tumbling Championships held over two days in Southampton and Andover.
Their reward was a treasure trove of ten gold medals, six silver and two bronze from a competition which covered all levels through from novice to international.
Some of SGC's top performers used the event as a warm-up for this weekend's British Tournament where they will compete against top international gymnasts from Russia, Ukraine and France.
Southampton's two senior women's groups - Hayley Buckman, Hannah Pompa & Hannah Strong and Mandy Turne, Helen Briggs & Rachel Ellis - performed consistent routines to take gold and silver respectively.
The junior trio of Kirsty Warren, Jessica Smith and Charlotte Franklin produced a superb tempo routine which included a double somersault with full twist.
These excellent performances were achieved in spite of the poor training facilities and arrangements the club are encountering while they await the opening of a new, dedicated facility at the old Redbridge School sports hall in Millbrook being developed with the aid of a £250,000 community club grant from Sport England.
The club, founded in 1968, is crying out for a new home. They provide gymnastics opportunities for over 400 people, from tumble tots and gym bobs for the youngsters through to elite squads.
SGC operates out of The Deanery in Chapel Road, Southampton and has 12 satellite centres scattered in and around the city.
The club has been awarded high performance status for sports acrobatics by British Gymnastics and is also one of the first clubs in the country to earn the British Gymnastics Gym Mark for quality.
