Epsom first XI 5 Andover first XI 1
Andover's mini-revival ended with a five-goal thrashing at Epsom.
A long trip caused a number of absentees, but thanks to the seconds' game being cancelled, Ed Butterworth was able to form a squad.
The visitors did, however, get off to an excellent start, scoring in the opening minute of the game, as a cross from Rob Thomas was expertly deflected into the goal by a diving Nigel Downing.
The question was whether Andover could hold on for 69 minutes, but it was answered with 68 minutes remaining. Epsom produced attack after attack and it was only the superb goalkeeping of Butterworth that kept the score at 2-1. Andover even had an opportunity to equalise when an Andy Bridge penalty corner strike almost got through.
But it was all over in the second half as former Andover player Mat Heal undid his old side to complete a fine hat-trick.
On Saturday, Andover have a home fixture against Basingstoke, and their stars will be available; Andover's revival can be resumed at least until their next trip to London!
Andover Vets 2 Southampton Vets 7
A weakened but enthusiastic side were beaten by a strong Southampton team on Saturday.
Andover were moving the ball around well but they lacked the incisiveness of Southampton, who took the lead and added two more before half-time. The reply came from a reverse stick shot from James Woods, who scored identically in the second half.
Southampton added four more goals to their tally bringing their total to seven, a scoreline which flattered them.
