Saints reserves stung the Hornets with a powerful performance at Staplewood last night.
Leandre Griffit was the star of the show as he came up with another two excellently taken goals to bring his season's tally for the reserves to six. But it was an all-round strong performance from Steve Wigley's team who could easily have scored more goals.
Saints got off to a sluggish start but, in the 29th minute, they made the breakthrough when Griffit nodded home an Arron Davies cross.
Jo Tessem and Brett Ormerod had aleady gone close to goals, only to be denied by some last ditch defending, but when Watford failed to clear, Davies swung the ball back in from the right and Griffit made the most of it.
The goal boosted Saints' confidence and they almost scored a second goal on 37 minutes.
Fitz Hall played the ball out of defence to Yoann Folly who fed Arron Davies down the right wing. After exchanging passes with David Prutton, the Welsh under-20 international whipped in an inviting ball to Ormerod around ten yards from goal.
Unfortunately it bounced up off the slick surface a little too quickly for the Saints hit-man who was unable to connect sweetly with his effort.
The Saints striker did find his mark just after the hour, however.
A perfect pass from Prutton gave him the opportunity and Ormerod burst into the Watford's penalty area before firing a low shot. Michael Ainon was able to block his first attempt but the ball ran kindly and Ormerod made no mistake with the rebound, driving home via Hitchcock's despairing palm.
Prutton twice went close from distance, Garry Monk powered two headers just over and Hitchcock made a brave stop at Davies's feet. But Saints grabbed two rapid-fire goals in the last nine minutes.
First Folly glanced home a header from Griffit's delivery to bag a well deserved first goal for the reserves.
Less than a minute after the restart Griffit was again terrorizing the visitors defence as, from his pass, second-year scholar Anaclet was brought down.
Griffit immediately took responsibility and from around 20 yards out stepped up to stroke home a superb free-kick into the top right-hand corner and ensure a miserable trip home for the travelling side.
