YOUNGSTERS are pinning their hopes on a meeting to discuss a skatepark plan for Bishop's Waltham.

The possibility of building the new park will be on the agenda at the parish council meeting when scores of locals are expected to turn up in support.

Councillors are set to come under fire from youth campaigners who claim the much-wanted park is long overdue and continually put to the bottom of their list.

Chairman of the Bishop's Waltham youth club, Brandy Blunt, 73, said: "The children have told the parish council what they want but the council only seem to do what they want instead. They have been dilly-dallying around for four years with the skatepark and it's time it was built. They have the funding for it."

He added: "Youngsters here have nothing to do. All they have is a youth club building that frankly is like a shed. They can't have discos in it or anything because people complain about it. They really need the skatepark and it's time the councillors stopped making excuses and built it."

Chairman, Councillor Gideon Lake, denied the long delay was down to the fact that funding had only just being made available.

"There was also concern in the past that it could turn out to be an expensive white elephant but we have had a lot more interest from young people in the area now."

The possible location of the park is still to be discussed, but it could be situated on land in Priory Park off Victoria Road where Bishop's Waltham sports ground lies.

The meeting is being held at 7.30pm on November 24 at the Jubilee Hall in Little Shore Lane, Bishop's Waltham.
