FOLLOWING its impressive refurbishment, The Mitre is clearly trying to attract a wider clientele than its traditional student drinkers.
The function room upstairs made for a cosy venue for this fortnightly stand-up comedy showcase, and was filled with beer-fuelled under-30s.
Fans of live comedy know it's best to sit near the back unless you want to get picked on by the performers. This room was so small that every audience member was a potential target for the comedians' caustic wit.
Canadian Alex Lazarev got the show off to a great start, while local newcomer Glyn Richards also won over the crowd with his spot-on observations. Hal Cruttenden finished the show off nicely, and professionally handled the inevitable hecklers.
This Sunday night's session would work better on a Friday or Saturday, but if you dont mind having a hangover on a Monday, it's definitely worth it.
