Sophie Fenning is the marketing controller of Capital Radio Hampshire, based at Segensworth, near Fareham. This is her typical working day...
MY ALARM clock wakes me up at 7am and to kick-start my senses for the day ahead, I make a strong cup of coffee - I'm not a big advocate of hot water and a slice of fresh lemon!
At the moment I'm babysitting my friend's two cats, who demand to be fed before making breakfast for myself.
I usually leave for work about 8am. Once in the office I check my e-mails and have a quick catch-up with the marketing executive before tackling my workload for the day. This morning I interviewed listeners who have volunteered for an on-air competition that Power FM is launching in a few weeks.
Part of my job is to ensure that all candidates are both physically and mentally suitable for an event and that they'll make great radio.
On Tuesday mornings I meet up with the programme controllers and the promotions teams for both Ocean FM and Power FM to talk about new ideas for on-air competitions.
My aim is to make sure that all client promotions are beneficial to both them and the station.
I and the controllers then get together with producers and presenters for a creative meeting about the success of current on-air activities and areas for development.
We also put together ideas for listener promotions, on-air content, and how we can take these off-air in marketing terms to attract new listeners.
For lunch I have a quick bite at my desk whilst reading through the morning's new influx of e-mails, but occasionally I'll scan through the daily newspaper or the latest copy of Marketing Week.
Once a month I'll get out of the office and have lunch with a client. I find informal situations like these allow for honest feedback and build closer working relationships with partner organisations.
Yesterday afternoon I was busy putting the finishing touches together for Ocean FM's exclusive evening with Darius at the Bambuu Bar in Southampton.
I was also at the event to ensure it ran smoothly but before that, I spent a few hours writing annual business plans for Power, Ocean and Capital Gold.
My job involves devising and implementing all marketing initiatives, how we're going to attract new listeners and how we're going to keep them listening for longer.
Reporting on audience, charity and station events, as well as public relations activity across the three stations is also part of my marketing responsibilities.
I leave work between 6.30pm and 7pm. I try to go to my local health club three times a week, but some nights it's just nice to go straight home and chill out in front of the TV!
I started doing Pilates and yoga classes a few weeks ago, which I really enjoy, but I will always use the gym at least once out of my three visits.
My real passion, however, is shopping.
I always think if I hadn't gone into broadcast marketing, I would have chosen a career in fashion PR.
I spend far too much time and money and I never have enough wardrobe space!
One of the perks of the job is free tickets to local gigs.
Last week I saw the Scissor Sisters locally and there's generally something going on at one of the local venues.
I also get to meet bands when we put on events and when they come to be interviewed on-air - it's not unusual to be sitting at my desk and Ronan Keating or someone similar walk past!
I like to relax by going for a few drinks with some friends followed by a good meal. I actually love food and eating out.
I'm a vegetarian and eating out used to be a complete bore because of the lack of variety, but menus have improved so much now that I'm usually spoilt for choice!
