"FOR your tomorrows we gave our todays." This was the timeless message to emerge from the Remembrance Sunday service at Fawley's All Saints Church.

About 200 residents from the Royal British Legion and Scouts and Guides groups marched in a parade from the village centre to the church.

The villagers packed into the church to pay their respects to the men and women who served their country, in both the World Wars and the various conflicts before and after.

Leading the service, Reverend Barry James asked parishioners to remember another timeless

message, which though known by all is not always followed.

Jesus' plea for mankind to not only love its neighbours but also to pray for its enemies was the subject of Revd James's sermon.

He said: "Jesus not only said the words, he lived them on the cross. On the cross is the only place I can think of where there was great hatred, great love and there was great forgiveness."

Rev James chose an ancient Chinese proverb to close the address. He said: "If there be righteousness in the heart there will be

beauty in the character."

"If there is beauty in the character, there will be harmony in the home. If there is harmony in the home there will be order in the nation.

"When there is order in each nation there will be peace in the world."

After singing the hymn Peace I Give to You, the congregation stood for the laying of the wreaths and acts of remembrance.A few words were spoken before the lone sounds of the bugle playing The Last Post filled the hall. Following the traditional silence, the church choir sang a short song called We Will Remember Them.

Rev James then closed the service with the act of commitment, the Lord's Prayer, the National Anthem and a final hymn, Thine be the Glory.
