FAWLEY have finally broken their two-year league duck by holding on to beat Ventnor in Hampshire Division Two 13-8.
The celebrations rolled long into the evening on the Waterside as Bob Conway's side marked the memorable afternoon set up by two first half Dilo Suka tries that put the hosts into a 10-0 lead. Ventnor edged back into the contest with a try and a penalty in the final 20 minutes.
Ventnor missed a drop goal but with a few minutes on the clock left, Lee Haisman intercepted a pass and ran down the touchline, kicking through but was pulled over the touch-line. But he made amends with a skewed drop-goal to wrap up the victory.
"We are absolutely delighted,"said the skipper.
Eastleigh's new coach Kevin Byron-Butler was given the perfect start to his reign with a resounding 33-0 away day crushing of Fordingbridge to lift them to third.
