IT WAS a big achievement when The Gregg School won the under-13 Southampton City Schools netball tournament at Millbrook School.
The school has a very small annual intake so numbers are limited for netball selection while the teams they came up against tended to have more players to choose from, including county players.
What Gregg School lacked in depth of talent they made up for in enthusiasm and focus, however.
The shooters showed their dominance in the attacking circle from the onset of the tournament with a 4-0 win over Bitterne Park while they dominated in centre court to stay in control when they needed it most.
They also linked well between attack and defence in another 4-0 win over Regents Park.
The next game proved the toughest - against fierce rivals St Anne's - but they showed great determination to edge a tightly-fought match 4-3.
Team spirit soared as they won the two remaining games 7-4 against Chamberlayne and 8-0 against Sholing, a game in which the defence marked so tightly it proved impossible for the opposition to score.
