GANGSTERS and their molls have been taking over the timetable at a Chandler's Ford school.
But it is only make-believe as Bugsy Malone takes centre stage at the Thornden School, Chandler's Ford.
The production marks an important development for the performing arts departments at Thornden, which four years ago became Hampshire's first specialist arts college. It is the first time the heads of arts, dance, drama and music have been able to work together to produce a show in the excellent new facilities of the state-of-the-art Thornden Hall.
Head of drama Mark Mitchener said: "We are delighted we now have the facilities for so many pupils to participate as performers. I am fairly certain that with 128 pupils taking part we have set a new record for the school."
Rehearsals began in July, and since September have taken place at break, lunchtimes and after school. This week's three evening performances are practically sold out.
