GIANT-KILLERS Romsey Town were brought crashing back to earth last night when they were thumped 4-1 by Blackfield & Langley in their SWL Division 2 match at Gang Warily.
Romsey, who beat Division 1 outfit Cowes Sports in the Hampshire Senior Cup at the weekend, would have gone third with a victory but they were soundly beaten by the Watersiders, who finished the game with ten men.
Steve Hartley gave Blackfield a 12th-minute lead from a penalty following a handball and Neil Williams doubled it ten minutes later from close range.
Another handball in the Blackfield area gave Simon De'Ath the chance to pull a goal back on 52 minutes but keeper Phil Kinally brilliantly saved his spot kick. De'Ath took his revenge with another penalty award ten minutes later before the hosts were reduced to ten men when Dean Macey was red-carded for a professional foul.
But it was the hosts who rallied, Robbie Morant headed in a third on 75 minutes and Williams stabbed home a Ben Homer cross five minutes later.
An injury-time equaliser salvaged Ringwood Town a point in their 2-2 draw at Amesbury Town.
Goals from Carl Barnett (65) and Kez Roberts (80) had seemingly given the Wiltshire side the points before the Foresters stormed back through Mark Burrett on 85 minutes and Steve Geary three minutes into stoppage time.
Two-goal Bryn Keech and a Shaun May effort powered Whitchurch United to three points and a 3-0 lead at US Portsmouth who replied with a last minute consolation.
In the third round of the Wessex League Cup, Netley Central Sports beat Petersfield Town 4-2 after extra time.
A twin strike by Ricky Bull put Netley 2-0 up only for the home side to force overtime with goals by Barry Keogh and Lee Blakeley.
Bull completed his hat-trick at the start of the second period of extra-time and Laurence Martin added a fourth in the final minute.
