CONGRATULATIONS: To Tony Sumner, who has recently been presented with the Hampshire Football Association's Services to Football Award.

Tony received his award from HFA chairman John Ward at the Hilton Hotel, Basingstoke.

He joined the village club in 1958 and has been a player, manager, secretary, vice-chairman, chairman, and is now club president.

Tony said: "Football has always been part of my life."

He is also a life vice-president of the Basingstoke and District Football League and is a south of England scout for Exeter City Football Club. Well done Tony!

SURPRISE: When Terry Raisborough went out on her birthday 10 days ago she wasn't expecting a surprise party at the Liddell Hall.

Husband Brian said: "It was really to congratulate her on her endeavours as a gardener."

Terry's garden design will be featured in the programme Gardeners' World on BBC2, on December 17.

Brian added: "It was very hard keeping it a secret and she was absolutely delighted with the cake which was a miniature replica of her award-winning garden."

The food was an Indian-style banquet, prepared by Terry's NWR friends, and entertainment was provided by a one-man band and a magician.

HEADWAY: Hugh Ogus, from Headway, thanked a very select, but enthusiastic, party of people who supported the barn dance last Saturday.

Pitchfork provided the music, and a fish and chip supper was enjoyed by all.

Sandy Johnston said: "A good time was had and a small profit has been made for Headway. Thanks to all who came."

POPPIES: Are on sale now. Please buy one from the door-to-door sellers and wear it with pride.

Remember it really helps if you fill in the gift envelope.

EVERGREENS: The autumn fair and school reunion are both on Saturday, November 13.

The autumn fair is at 2pm, in the hall, and the school reunion is at Longbridge Mill, from 6pm.
