A THIRD parish council has waded into the row over plans to build 600 homes on a 64-acre site at Bursledon.

Villagers have already given the scheme a frosty reception at a meeting called by Bursledon Parish Council, saying that plans for the huge site at the top of Hamble Lane could wreck the village and lead to traffic gridlock.

Now Hound Parish Council has announced that it also plans to mount a public meeting at Hound Parish Hall on November 22 at 7.30pm.

Concern is also growing in Hamble over the impact that a huge development might have on Hamble Lane, which is the only route into and out of the yachting mecca.

As reported by the Daily Echo, Hamble Parish Council is to stage a public meeting in the village's Memorial Hall on November 24 for people to have their say and the village authority is also seeking talks with its neighbours Bursledon and Hound.

Barratt Homes and George Wimpey UK want to build on land west of Hamble Lane and south of the A3024 Bursledon Road, claiming developers are under pressure to meet the growing demand for housing in the area.

As well as 600 homes, the scheme includes a park-and-ride for 850 cars, a health centre, a care home, and a country park and public open space.

Part of the land is currently used as a site for Bursledon's popular Sunday car boot sale and park-and-ride facilities for Saints' St Mary's Stadium and Hampshire Cricket's Rose Bowl.

But the entire site lies within Hound Parish Council's boundary.

Hound parish clerk Sue Hobbs said: "The meeting will be an opportunity for the public to have a look at the plans and put forward any comments they have."

Immediately following the public session, there will be a special council meeting where councillors will formulate their official response to Eastleigh Council on the planning application.
