COLDEN Common retained their grip on the Hampshire Intermediate Cup with a comfortable 3-0 victory at Stockbridge Reserves.

"Stockbridge are at the top of the Hampshire League and are very good side but we missed lots of chances today, although a larger winning margin would have been a bit harsh on them," said Common boss Dave Riddell.

Richard Lang opened the scoring on 40 minutes after Simon Stillwell had headed the ball back across goal, with James Atterbury bagging a second midway through the second half.

Common completed the scoring after 70 minutes when the ball broke to Stillwell who side-footed the ball over everyone's head from fully 40 yards.

A first-half hat-trick inside 12 devastating minutes by Alan Fooks helped steer Ordnance Survey to a 5-1 success at Burridge, where a twin strike by substitute James Chalk rounded off the Mapmen's tally.

Strikes from Tinio Christie (2) Paul Griffiths, Dave Lloyd, Steve Lloyd, plus an own goal, saw Sydenhams Division 3 pacesetters Farnborough North End go one better with a 6-1 spree at Emsworth Town.

Micheldever managed one of the day's biggest scores as they caned Casey's United 9-1 - with eight of the goals coming in the second half.

"It was a bit of a mis-match but we did manage to make heavy weather of it in the first half," reflected Micheldever manager Dave Stanbrook.

A Nick Holmes hat-trick and doubles from Mark Green and Simon Cox, coupled with efforts by Simon Peters and Paul Nelson, putting Micheldever on cloud nine.

Netley Central Sports boss Dave Holloway watched his side crash out 2-0 at Island League leaders Shanklin.

"We were abysmal and there was no spark today. We came over here on the ferry and I think that the players treated it like a holiday," said Holloway.

QK Southampton also went out 2-0 at Horndean United. QK secretary Don Campbell smiled: "We are not too concerned. With 24 league games still to play, the last thing we need is a cup run!"

A Tom Pearce hat-trick plus blows by Simon Sherlock and Callum Dyet secured AFC Portchester a 5-3 passage against Pyestock, while Hayling United should receive a walkover after nearby AFC Whiteley cried off.

The Portsmouth League side - who have lost all six of their games so far this season - couldn't raise a side to play their Wessex neighbours.
