WHY not do more than just wear your poppy with pride this year?
RAODS are offering a timely reminder of the tragedies of war with their latest show.
Dipping into the history of the First World War and mixing in popular songs of the day, with all the humour and drama of the period, is the backdrop to Joan Littlewood's renowned workshop creation Oh What a Lovely War.
This colourful and poignantly bitter satire first played in London in 1963 and has an enduring quality which makes it as popular and relevant today as when it first appeared.
RAODS is delighted to include it in their 70th Anniversary Show Season at the Plaza in Romsey.
Oh What a Lovely War is an ensemble piece, with the cast performing a circus-style show in traditional Pierrot clown costume.
Many favourite war-time songs are included, from Keep the Home Fires Burning and Goodbyee, to Pack Up Your Troubles to name but a few.
The Pierrots also perform sketches accompanied by news headlines of the day, creating fast-paced entertainment.
Janet Courtice from RAODS says: "As this is the 90th anniversary of the outbreak of the First World War in 1914, RAODS is particularly proud that one of the performances coincides with Armistice Day. As an extra offering on that night and on our opening night, Stephen Whelan from St. Edward's School will be giving a short talk at the Plaza about life in the trenches for a front-line soldier."
The Plaza Theatre, Romsey, Monday to Saturday, November 13. Tickets: from £5. Box office: 01794 512987.
Tickets for the pre-show talk on Monday and Thursday are available from the producer Clive Butcher on 01794 502173.
