Harry Redknapp laughed off speculation linking him with the vacant manager's job at Wolves as he prepared for Pompey's trip to Aston Villa.

Redknapp is believed to be the top target to take over from Dave Jones at Molineux, with chief executive Jez Moxey impressed with the way the 54-year-old has established Pompey in the Premiership.

But Redknapp, who was reported to have two years left on a £1.5m a year contract, said: "It's the first I'd heard of it but whoever wrote it hasn't got their facts anywhere near right.

"My contract is up at the end of next season but I've had a fantastic time here and I should be okay to do a few more years, and hopefully that'll be with Portsmouth. But I couldn't go up to 72 like Sir Bobby Robson, I'll be lucky to be alive then!"

Redknapp is still without his injured quartet of Patrik Berger, Eyal Berkovic, Diomansy Kamara and Steve Stone. But he hinted that new boy Valery Mezague, 20, could start his first game in midfield as Pompey look to build on beating Manchester United with their first away league win of the season.

"We're playing well away from home, we were unlucky to lose at Blackburn and Charlton, and we got good points at Norwich and Middlesbrough. Villa are strong in midfield and up front - but then so are we."

Pompey are going well but Redknapp added: "I still look at the bottom of the table rather than the top. Two years ago people wouldn't have thought we'd be in the Premiership, never mind sitting ninth as we are. But I'm still not worried about Newcastle or Liverpool winning, I'm more concerned with teams at the bottom dropping points, which is always good news."
