SHIP outfitters in the south will have another public money contract in their sights following the refurbishment of a vessel that supplies fuel to Britain's warships at sea.
The 30-year-old RFA Black Rover underwent a £7m overhaul at Birkenhead, Merseyside, to ensure she remains in service until the end of the decade.
An estimated £1.5m was spent on upgrading the accommodation areas for the 56 crew, with luxury fittings like granite bar surfaces.
As reported by Business South, that work was carried out by Southampton-based ship outfitters Trimline. RFA Black Rover is part of the Royal Fleet Auxiliary, which supplies the Royal Navy's warships with fuel, ammunition, food and general supplies.
Now sister ship RFA Gold Rover is being lined up by Whitehall for a similar type of overhaul next year.
