WINCHESTER teenager Will Nurse took part in his class at the last-ever powerboat racing event on Lake Windermere recently.
Will, a student at Peter Symonds College, was racing in Offshore Class III, 2 litre, in his boat Black Thunder, and competed in the endurance race with his father Iain against a world class fleet.
It was their first outing in the boat and they were delighted to finish a creditable fourth in their class, despite spinning out on a turn mark early in the race.
Some K100 Class endurance records set last year by Will were unbeaten in this year's event.
It was the final curtain for powerboat racing on Lake Windermere after 34 years, following a ban by the Government on motor boats exceeding 10mph there.
Countless national and world speed record attempts and races have taken place on the lake over the years.
Will and Iain are looking for a sponsor for the 2005 RYA National Series. Anyone interested can contact them on 01962 842774.
