ONE OF the most special specimens in the history of carp fishing has been unveiled at Dorset fishery Milton Abbas.

Fishery owner Wayne Little has purchased the five-and-a-half year old fish, pictured above, which weighs in at an incredible 31lb 12oz.

Little picked the fish, named 'Shaft', out when it was harvested at 24lb at four and half years and struck a deal to buy the fish 12 months later.

Mark Brown scored two victories in as many days at Greenridge Farm.

He won the Saturday Open with 90lb 14oz and the Sunday sweepstake with 100lb 1oz.

On Saturday Brown fished peg 12 on Canal 2 on maggot and pole on the inside ledge to take 90lb 14oz of carp to 5lb to win from Mick Marsh, who took 71lb 13oz of carp to 6lb from peg 70 on Canal 2.

Eastleigh Mosella's Dave Self was third with 65lb 7oz of carp.

Others: M. Kenny 51lb 4oz, A. Potter 49lb 7oz, K. Bell 43lb 1oz.

On Sunday Brown drew peg 20 on Canal 2 and fished margins and the middle on pole and maggot to land a monster 100lb 1oz of carp to 8lb.

Paul Shepherd was second with a mized bag of chub, tench and carp and Graham Tappenden third with 48lb of chub, carp and bits.

Paul Sears was fourth with 47lb 9oz of small carp.

The midweeker on Greenridge fished in gale force winds and driving rain saw victory go to Self, who took 39lb 12oz of carp to 4lb. Mick Marsh (38lb 13oz of carp) was second.

Cormorants' club match on Longbridge saw victory go to Poingdestres Skipper Clive Egerton, who took 84lb of carp and tench on pole, band and pellet from peg 40 on the canal.

Neil Tappin was second (7 carp on the pole for 47lb 8oz) and Jim Murray third (44lb 15oz of carp on the pole).

Others: T. Bremble 42lb 12oz, S. Rochester 41lb 8oz, R. Kajko 31lb 7oz.

The Witherington Farm Open on Topmoor was won by Ian Goodfellow, who took 79lb 12oz of carp to 5lb.

Others: 2 James Knight (57lb 6oz of carp on pole and corn), 3 Garry Etheridge (58lb 6oz), 4 Paul Barnard (52lb 14oz).

AROUND THE LAKES

Turf Croft Farm fishery at Burley has been in great form for some nice carp and excellent mixed bags.

Visitor Jack Baines had two days on the venue catching quality bream, tench and roach, topped by a cracking 27lb carp on worm.

John Jewell (Weymouth) fished pole and corn over pellet to take a mixed bag of 100lb plus, including quality perch.

The pike fishing at Broadlands on the Main Lake remains superb with more than 300 fish. Laurie Meager (Lordshill) found some quality fish in the Blackwater Corner with two singles plus doubles of 14lb, 17lb 2oz, 17lb 6oz, 18lb 2oz, 18lb 6oz and 19lb 14oz on trout livebait.

Pete Rowland took 16 fish including four doubles to 18lb from the Inlet Bay, while Phil Portland took the week's best fish with a 20lb 6oz pike from the Boat Bay.

Best carp of the week at 19lb 14oz fell to Brian Moorland (Wareham).

At Dave Wateridge's Waldens Farm Complex, Dave Piper (Salisbury) took a 58lb bag of carp on corn from Popes Lake.

Best carp of the week at 16lb 6oz fell to Jeff Whitemoor from Bishops Lake on float fished pellet.

Tom Hope and Dave Bradbeer from Romsey fished Longbridge and took 38 carp including six doubles to 14lb 8oz plus 22 tench to 5lb on pellet over p.v.a bags of trout pellet in a 48-hour session from peg 24.

Andy Collis fished peg 23 on pellet over p.v.a bags of pellet to land 11 carp in a day session including fish of 16lb 2oz, 13lb 6oz, 13lb and 11lb 4oz.

Peter Roberts (Warsash) fished peg 38 on the canal on waggler and corn to land 18 carp to 9lb, 6 tench to 4lb, 12 bream to 2lb 8oz and four crucians to 1lb 8oz.
