FROM junior football clubs to defence classes for the over 50s, all types of Southampton activity classes could be in line for a massive community windfall.

The Outer Shirley Regeneration board has pledged to plough £100,000 into community activities around Millbrook, Redbridge and Shirley Warren.

The cash will be available for groups in the form of small grants over the next two years.

Handouts of up to £5,000 will be on offer for activities and equipment benefiting the community.

Regeneration boss Alison Bull said: "The small grants always prove really popular with the local community.

"This is one way that the regeneration cash can be used by people at a grass-roots level to really make a difference to their everyday lives.

"The grants will benefit a whole range of people, from babies through to pensioners, and I am looking forward to receiving applications for this latest round."

Since 2001 the OSR board has handed out more than £285,000 to fund local projects, including new pom-poms for Liberty Pride Cheerleaders and changing facilities for girls at Southampton Rugby Club.

Shirley Warren Baptist church has landed a new garden and free smoke detectors have been handed out to residents.

The money pot has even paid for replacement sheet music for The Crescent Singers choir.
