BASINGSTOKE hospital has written to eye patients warning them that their sight could be at risk following surgery.
Those at risk, say the hospital, are cataract patients who received a lens implant between 2000 and 2001.
About 100 letters were sent out to patients last week to inform them of the potential problem, which involves the gradual build up of calcium on the lens - resulting in glare or misty vision.
Studies carried out by the manufacturer of the Bausch & Lomb Hydroview lens have indicated that the problem appears to be linked to silicone packaging getting on to the lens surface.
Letters have been sent to people who had the surgery between September 2000 and March 2001.
Bosses say that the Department of Health has advised all hospitals that a "small" number of patients in this timeframe may experience problems with their vision.
Patients who are concerned about the lens problem can contact their optician or call a NHS Direct helpline on 0845 601 7315.
The line will be open from 9am until 7pm between Monday, May 24 and Friday, May 28.
