AN inquiry has been launched after a young man was found hanged at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester.
Damion Price, 19, had been receiving treatment as an in-patient at the Romsey Road hospital when his body was discovered in a toilet on October 23.
The Daily Echo has learnt the youth had been admitted for apparent self-harm injuries to his arms and had been staying in the Wainwright Ward.
Damion, unemployed, of Vespasian Road in Andover where he lived with his mother, was found by staff in a toilet cubicle near the ward.
The central Hampshire coroner's office has opened and adjourned a full inquest into Damion's death.
Bosses at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital have confirmed they are also going to hold an internal inquiry into the circumstances surrounding his death. A brief statement released by the hospital said: "A full inquest will be heard and the Winchester and Eastleigh NHS Trust is co-operating fully with the coroner's office.
The death is thought to be the first suspected suicide at the Winchester and Eastleigh NHS Trust hospital in at least 15 years.
However, teenager Ainslie Jones took her life in a similar fashion at the Melbury Lodge mental healthcare unit attached to the hospital, though not run by it, in June this year.
