A TEN week coaching course for budding netball players is about to spring into action at Hamble.
The scheme at Hamble Community Sports College gets under way on Wednesday November 10.
Aimed at girls aged 11 to 14, the course will provide an introduction to the sport. Top coaches in the area will also give guidance on improving netball skills.
Eastleigh Council's sports development team has been working with the Active Sport Project to bring this initiative to Hamble.
Explaining the background, borough sports development officer James Coney said: "This is very much a joint project by the borough council and Active Sport.
"The netball sessions have been set up because there is currently a limited provision for netball in the Hamble area."
Each session will cost £2 or £20 for the full ten weeks. Reduced rates are available for families receiving income support, Jobseekers Allowance, housing or council tax benefit. Active Sport is a five year England-wide programme targeting rugby, netball, basketball, hockey, girls football, and cricket. More sports will be included next year. In Hampshire the programme is being delivered by the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Sports Partnership.
James said: "We are working to ensure that there is easier access for young people to club sport and to help them improve their sport."
