We've had another case of a top player, Adrian Mutu of Chelsea, admitting to taking drugs. And while the FA have still not decided how long a ban he should get, Chelsea have acted quickly and in a positive manager by cancelling his contract.
They did this previously with Mark Bosnich and in the case of Mutu have written off a reported £15.8m which they paid for his transfer only last season.
While not many clubs would be prepared to do that, it is a warning to any other player on the books. In the meantime what about money laid out by parents for merchandise and shirts with Mutu's (pictured above) name on it? Will they get a refund?
It will be interesting to see how long a ban he will get. I agree with Sports Minister Richard Caborn, who is asking for a maximum of two years. Only a few months would enable the player to sign for a club abroad on a free transfer, thereby making another small fortune for himself.
