My old friend Paul (once known as Gazza) Gascoigne, left, has changed his name to G8. It stands for the initial of his surname and the number on his football shirt.
I like Paul very much and he is trying ever so hard to put his wild days behind him.
But I know that for a few weeks a lot of comedians will make mileage out of his new chosen nickname.
G8 summit springs readily to mind, but I believe he wants to be called 'Gate', rhyming with 'Great'.
Whatever they call him, I just hope he will be allowed to get on with his new life and achieve his ambitions to complete the FA course to enable him to become a coach or manager at some small club.
