Solent Stars' senior men's basketball team return to league action after a fortnight's break with a match against Kingston Wildcats at Fleming Park tonight (8pm).

After just two league games, Solent lie in tenth position - two places below Kingston, who have won one of their opening three matches.

The win came last week when they triumphed at Coventry Crusaders 76-67. Solent's previous game was, by chance, at home to Coventry and they lost that 64-57.

It prompted a comment from assistant coach Steve Chant that "Defensively we have done enough to put ourselves in a winning position, but we lack a bit of confidence in our shooting."

In an effort to put more points on the board, Solent have made another signing during the two-week break.

Chris Bevin has joined the team after leaving Oakland City University, Indiana.

The 6ft 4in player is able to play on an Irish passport, which leaves the way open for Solent to pursue a second American player.

Negotiations are currently under way through Karl Tatham - a player during the inaugural seasons of the club - for another recruit to the squad from an American University.

Marlin Capers, Solent's only American player so far, has scored nearly a third of the team's points in the opening six cup and league fixtures.

His total of 166 points is far more than second-placed Mark Jackson (79).

Coach Alan Cunningham realises that confidence is a key issue, admitting: "Once the ball starts going in more often, we'll start winning games."

With no injury problems, Solent will have a full squad to pick from as they seek their first league win.

Solent's second men's team, lying third with just one defeat from their opening four games, have no game this weekend.
