AS Remembrance Sunday on 14 November fast approaches the Mayor of Test Valley, Cllr Neville Whiteley, has appealed for more recruits to join the Royal British Legion.
He said demands on the resources of the legion continued to grow, not least because of the continuing conflict in Iraq.
He added: "The Poppy Appeal is as relevant today as it ever was and the legion is there to help those in need in our ex-service community and their dependants."
Earlier this year the legion was deeply involved in the 60th anniversary of D-Day and in 2005 it will be helping to organise the commemoration of the 60th anniversary of Victory in Europe and Victory in Japan as well as the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar.
The mayor said: "In order to continue the success of the appeal the legion is anxious to recruit as many volunteers as possible."
Anyone aged over 16 who can help is urged to ring 0800 085 5924.
