PALMERSTON produced the finest performance in their Rymans Denny Cup history with a 93-53 roasting of Banister Park.
It was a remarkable result - even more so as the Fareham club were minus leading skips Tony Grant and Neil O'Donovan for this second-round derby.
Palmerston took all four rinks, the show-stoppers being Bill Jackson, Andrew Miller, Ron Curtis, pictured, and Eric Brierley who went 16-3 ahead at ten ends in a 31-8 eclipse of Cliff Higgins, Andrew Herring, John Joslin and Ken Marsh at Fareham.
Alongside, Tony Cole, Ron Packman, Barry Grinaway and Roy Reader recovered from a 6-0 deficit after two ends by scoring a seven on the third in their 20-18 success against Trevor Comley, Ken Prior, Denny Murrey and Barry Bendall.
At Stoneham Lane Palmerston were just as dominant with Russell Gadd, Peter Cook, Barry Stafford and Andy McKain outgunning Andy Anderson 21-12 and John Duhig, Ben Settle, Ian Chittenden and Brian Morgan silencing Paul May 21-15.
Despite losing three rinks Longmeadow went through 73-70 against Dolphin thanks to a convincing victory by Graham Standley's rink.
Standley, playing alongside Keith Cole, John Cawthorne and Derek Chivers, was only 12-7 ahead at ten ends but cut loose in the second half to swamp Bob Atkins 29-8 at Whitchurch.
Longmeadow's second home rink of John Ash, Nigel Bechelet, Fred Judd and Andy Ross went down 17-14 after dropping a crucial four on the 17th in what had been a tight contest.
At Poole Ron Annetts, Norman Hillier, Brian Hillard and Graham Hillier fell 21-17 to Chris Howard while Terry Vosper, Peter Read, Ted Brown and Colin Taylor slumped 24-13 to Brian Shepherd.
A splendid 34-12 away win from Steve Shaw, Ian Laming, Stan Early and Robbie Voller senior carried Loddon Vale through 88-61 against Glebelands of Finchley, north London.
The other Loddon Vale travellers, skipped by Peter Tarbutt, lost 20-15. At Basingstoke the honours were also shared, Pat Smith (26-15) being successful for Loddon Vale and Doug Morgan being pipped 14-13.
East Dorset sailed through 126-43 against neighbours New Milton but out went Chawton Park (99-47 to Wey Valley), Five Rivers (77-72 to Worthing) and Isle of Wight (85-62 to Worthing Pavilion).
Third-round ties on November 6: Longmeadow v Palmerston, Worthing v Atherley, East Dorset v Worthing Pavilion, Victory v Arun, Loddon Vale v Wey Valley.
