SHARP-SHOOTING Steve Poolton claimed an unusual goal-scoring record as Alton Town won 4-2 at Oakwood last night in their rain-delayed FA Vase first round tie.
Poolton, who scored a hat-trick against the Metropolitan Police in the FA Cup this season, repeated his treble-shooting antics against the Sussex League outfit.
"I can't imagine that there are many players who have scored hat-tricks in both FA competitions in the same season," smiled Alton chairman Jim McKell.
"We can now look forward to welcoming the holders, Winchester City, at our place on November 20," he added.
The home side took the lead inside 90 seconds but Poolton put Alton back on terms five minutes later before Richard McCann slotted in from close range to give them the lead midway through the first half.
Poolton pouched his second right on half-time following a neat one-two with McCann before completing his treble on 85 minutes with a twice-taken penalty. Oakwood netted their second goal deep into stoppage time.
Sadly, Brockenhurst won't be joining Alton in the second round after they crashed to a disappointing 3-0 defeat at home to Thamesmead.
"I'm very disappointed," sighed Badgers boss Graham Kemp. "We didn't play badly, we were just beaten by the better side.
Lee Winsall went closest for Brockenhurst with a header that hit the inside of the post just after half time.
l Winchester City stay three points clear at the top of Division 1 following their 3-0 home victory over BAT - a match marred by ten yellow cards brandished by Stockbridge referee Colin Hopkins.
BAT's Paul West was the unlucky player to see two of them and he was dismissed after 65 minutes at which stage the Tobaccomen were already 2-0 down.
Jamie Musselwhite turned in Lloyd Webber's cross after four minutes and then he added a second on 34 minutes following a poor goal kick.
Two minutes after West's red card, Shaun Dyke's effort was only parried by BAT keeper Gareth Barfoot and Jamie Laidlaw cashed in.
Another red card at Faraday Road, where visiting Gosport keeper Mark Brown was dismissed in the final minute of their 2-1 win over Newbury after upending Lance Spencer.
Striker Neil Scammell took over between the posts but was powerless to prevent Newbury skipper Adam Lang from scoring, but fortunately for Boro they were already 2-0 up thanks to a stunning 25th-minute strike by Ian Rew and an 89th-minute effort by substitute Graham Lindsay.
Two second-half goals in the space of six minutes by Steve Blackman and Vikram Singh earned Moneyfields a 2-0 verdict against Hamble ASSC, while Totton and Thatcham produced plenty of good football but no goals in an entertaining stalemate at Testwood Park.
