IT'S ALWAYS been a day to remember. This year's Titchfield Carnival didn't fail to deliver for the 25,000 people who swarmed to the quiet village to witness its transformation into a magical and musical all-colour extravaganza.

With rainbow bunting hanging from the corner of every building, and the sweet smell of candy floss lingering in the breeze, children and adults from far and wide relished the festivities.

Phillip Wills, spokesman for organisers Titchfield Bonfire Boys Society, said it was "as good as ever".

Brightly-coloured floats inspired by all kinds of themes took to the packed streets for the procession delighting hundreds of spectators.

There was a mini I'm A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here float, with jungle greenery and imitation celebrities.

A gaggle of schoolgirls in fishnet tights strutted their stuff on a Britney's Babes float to the smash hit Hit Me Baby One More Time.

Organiser of the dancing spectacular, Gemma Treagust, 19, of Bellfield Close, Titchfield, said: "It's really exciting. I take part in the carnival every year. It's tiring but the adrenalin soon starts to kick in."

The procession wouldn't have been the same without this year's Carnival Queen, 18-year-old Jessica Silver of Titchfield and her princesses.

People happily tossed coins on to the floats, most of which were collecting for local charities - and enjoyed the music from the bands bringing up the rear.

As daylight began to fade, the lights and lanterns illuminated the procession colours and people readied themselves for the fireworks.

Phillip Wills concluded: "It has gone really well. Everyone has enjoyed themselves.

"The procession was great. We had some people down from Notting Hill Carnival and their costumes were amazing."
