TWO Southampton teenagers are cleaning the streets to raise money for poor children overseas.

Catherine Mace and Katie Garnett, of Highfield, are looking for sponsors to support their 12-hour litter picking challenge.

The two 18-year-olds still need to raise more than £4,000 to fund a trip to help poor children in Venezuela during their gap year.

They will be collecting rubbish, around Southampton on Sunday, which will then be sorted for recycling.

Catherine and Katie are due to fly to Venezuela in March for a five-month stint working with the Peace Village Foundation, which provides education for children in poor areas in remote regions.

"We will also be doing ecological work in the rainforest and helping with occupational therapy for children with special needs," said Katie.

"We decided to do the litter collection because we thought it fitted well with the ecological nature of the work we are going to do."
