HAMPSHIRE Division Two has new leaders as Ventnor slipped to a 14-12 defeat at Ellingham & Ringwood which has allowed surprise package Chineham to take over at the top.
They recorded their second successive 50-point haul by thumping lowly Lytchett Minster 51-0 while Aldershot & Fleet are just behind them after defeating Eastleigh 11-8, having come from 8-0 down early in the first half.
Playing with the strong wind in their favour, Eastleigh skipper Wayne Hayward was soon on the end of Jon Palacio's kick ahead to score and the provider added a penalty to slip the visitors into a positive lead.
However, Aldershot battled back with their scrum beginning to dominate and they were rewarded with a try and errors crept into Eastleigh's game, allowing the hosts to edge further into the game, resulting in a well-taking drop goal.
Using the wind to the advantage, A&F pinned Eastleigh deep in their half, not allowing the visitors to counter and only through the stout defending led by Peter Noonan and Paul Taylor did they only allow the home side a single penalty.
However, it was enough to win the match.
