JAPANESE procurement company TOA has entrusted Southampton based freight group Meachers with the handling of a variety of products from the Far East.
The rolling contract, for an undisclosed amount, was awarded for a complete supply chain network to include freight forwarding, warehousing and transportation services.
Meachers' freight forwarding arm, Oast Agencies, will organise the shipping and documentation for containers containing hundreds of pallets of electrical components, which are imported monthly from China into Southampton.
Pallets will be transported to Meachers extensive warehouse facility close to Southampton Docks for devanning, storage and onward distribution to TOA customers throughout the UK including Sanyo, Toshiba and Matsushita.
TOA's Nancy Mah, a senior corporate executive, said: "We are very pleased with Meachers and the services that they are supplying to us.
"Their computerised inventory control has been very efficient and they have provided us with a very reliable service, organised by extremely helpful staff."
Meachers employs 250 people at its base at Mauretania Road, Nursling.
