OSSIE, the injured osprey released back into the wild, has been found dead in Spain.
Ossie, shot in Wiltshire on his migration south, was handed to police and taken to the Hawk Conservancy at Weyhill to recover.
He was released from the Broad-lands Estate near Romsey on 28 September and flew south to Spain. He was found on Monday at Ria de Ortigueira in the north western corner of the country and was identified as Ossie at the Santa Cruz Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre at Oleiros.
His arrival in Spain coincided with a period of severe weather and it's presumed the heavy rain hampered his ability to fish so he was unable to replenish his fat reserves used after his long flight.
