GUY BEWICK hit a hat-trick as North Baddesley moved through to the third round of the Southampton Senior Cup by beating Senior One rivals AFC Bassett.
However, the match was a bad-tempered affair and Baddesley were forced to reshuffle after only ten minutes when ex-Romsey midfielder Lee Rankin was the victim of a late two-footed lunge.
Bassett thought they had scored when Dan Hood hooked the ball off the goal line and they also rattled the crossbar before Bewick put Baddesley ahead from Robbie Abbott's defence- splitting pass.
A wild tackle by the visiting keeper on Kevin Redman then gifted Baddesley a penalty, which Bewick tucked away at the second attempt, and the Baddesley hitman netted his third with a deft chip.
Bassett were having an increasingly frustrating time against the defensive trio of Glen Parker, Ollie Lynch and Stuart Turner. The referee finally lost patience with a flurry of yellow cards, a red for dissent and the removal of the Bassett linesman - which threatened to overshadow Bewick's contribution.
This Saturday, a change in the fixture list means that Baddesley will entertain Ordnance Survey Reserves in Southampton Senior Division 1, while the Reserves travel to the New Forest to face Norleywood.
