A LAST-DITCH attempt to ease the parking nightmare in Brockenhurst has been hailed an early success.
The combination of double and single yellow lines were painted throughout the village at the end of last month in a bid to curb the influx of more than 2,000 college students and hundreds of commuters using residential streets for parking.
At a meeting of Brockenhurst Parish Council, PC Ian Hunt, beat officer for Brockenhurst, confirmed that no parking tickets have been issued since the restrictions were enforced.
PC Hunt said: "The parking on the village green has now been sorted out with the advent of the yellow lines. It has become almost a traffic-free area."
Anyone caught parking on double yellow lines at any time or single lines between 9am-5pm will be fined £40.
Lines were painted on roads including Waters Green, Grigg Lane, East Bank Road, The Rise and Highwood Road in time for the start of the academic year. Students at Brockenhurst have to pay just £5 a year to park on campus.
