GOLDEN Ring head-coach Stuart Gill has slammed the "travesty" which saw the area's top boxing prospect suffer a surprise defeat on his senior debut.
Tony Hill was stepping out of the junior ranks after a glittering record of Olympic gold and numerous national and British titles when he took on Crawley's Southern Counties champion Anthony Young.
The 18-year-old Lordshill middleweight was winded by a punch to the throat in the second round, but dominated the rest of the fight, inflicting a standing count on his opponent in the third.
But Gill could not believe his ears when the fight was awarded to Young on points.
"What can you do?" asked Gill.
"We thought Tony won the fight comfortably and so did most people I spoke to at ringside.
"It makes a mockery of things but we will just get on with it. For Tony, it is all part of the learning experience."
Also in action on the Bellemoor School show from Golden Ring was Jamie Ferguson who narrowly won an entertaining battle with Eastleigh's Sam Courage.
Jason Rogers comfortably dispatched Ports-mouth's Mark Coombes, while Jon Fernandes boxed superbly to defeat Hove's Mark Hollit as did Shirley's Shaun Naylor against Jamie Larder.
Southampton ABC's Richard Smart also impressed with victory against Pete Barney from the Lawrence Club, although teammate Robert Mann was beaten by Portsmouth's Lloyd Smith.
Golden Ring's Sean Cole, meanwhile, lost on points to Malmesbury's Sam Jenner.
Guest of honour at the popular show was brave Bournemouth six-year-old Bradley Dent.
He has suffered a paralysis from his waist down and money was raised towards buying him a new state-of-the-art wheelchair.
