TO MARK the 20th year of the local arts charity The Rodges Trust, a celebration concert is being held in All Saints Church in Southern Road, Basingstoke, this Saturday, at 7.30pm.

The Rodges Trust was founded in 1985 by the late Geoffrey Rodges, from Oakley, during his year as Mayor of Basingstoke and Deane, to support people of the borough in the visual and performing arts.

Two such beneficiaries will perform at the concert.

Born in Basingstoke, Victoria Wright began learning violin at the age of four. During the succeeding years, she regularly competed in the Basingstoke Music and Arts Festival and was a member of numerous local and national orchestras, including the National Children's Orchestra.

Victoria (pictured) is now pursuing a career as a freelance violinist. She regularly works with Bath Philharmonia and Welsh Sinfonia and has undertaken extra work and trials with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and the English Symphony Orchestra.

Pianist Yvana Gavric graduated with distinction after studying at the Royal College of Music and St Catherine's College, Cambridge.

She has studied with eminent pianists and has given recitals as far afield as Milan, Moscow, Tokyo, London and Winchester Cathedral.

Tickets for the concert, priced £7, with concessions available, can be purchased from Modern Music in Basingstoke town centre, Wendy Lodge on 01256 326839 or on the door on the evening of the concert.

Applicants for The Rodges Trust must be aged between 16 and 25 and must be resident or have been educated within the borough of Basingstoke and Deane.
