QUIZ: The Basingstoke NeighbourCare quiz took place last Saturday, and was hailed as the best ever by organiser Kay Elliott.

A record 22 teams took part, so many that the location had to be changed at the last minute to St Mark's Primary School, to accommodate the teams.

Thanks must go to the school for its help in making this possible.

For the first time ever the quiz ended with a tie for first place.

After a play-off, the winning team was "Ou est Le Boeuf?", which narrowly beat "The 4 Ms".

A massive £1,065 was raised on the night for the NeighbourCare charity.

VOLUNTEERS needed: Still on the NeighbourCare theme, more volunteers are urgently needed to help with the increasing number of clients dealt with every week.

If you have a small amount of spare time and feel that you would like to help the community by assisting those in need of a helping hand, perhaps with a lift to the hospital or GP, or maybe with a spot of emergency shopping or babysitting, then please call 01256 332424.

CONGRATULATIONS: To my brother, Vince Butcher, who, last week, completed the Great South Run.

He finished with an excellent time, despite trouble with his knee, and raised more than £200 for the Primary Biliary Cirrhosis Foundation.
