OPEN day: October 1, at Manor Field Junior School, was a day to remember.
Myrddin Rees came along for the opening of the new extension - a fine, spacious improvement to the school. Very welcome also was the deputy mayor, Cllr Paula Baker.
Our visitors made it a day to celebrate. Joining pupils from the junior school were children from Manor Field Infant School.
A highlight of the presentation was the children singing We are the Children of Manor Field School.
Emphasised by the headteacher, Jan Cushing, were: "Rights, responsibilities and respect".
Responsibilities include looking after each other, looking after the school and looking after our health.
The Nurture Room is a favourite room. Here, young children can have breakfast, and pupils and staff can relax in comfort.
I accompanied Sam, a member of the community relations team, on a tour of the impressive new wing, including the IT suite.
I admired several well-equipped rooms, where children were discovering reading, art, calculations and scientific investigation.
May I thank Lauren Hutchins for her letter? She is a member of the Manor Field community relations team - a group I take a special interest in.
I truly enjoy visiting the school and meeting the pupils. It was impossible to decide who was the best when interviewing, and I am glad that all the applicants who wish to join the team are to be involved.
Thanks also to other team members who have sent me reports, which will be included in this column soon.
