French lorry-driver, Andr Proust, has been talking to detectives about his ordeal after being hijacked, along with his trailer containing brandy worth £220,000.

It was stolen in the early hours of Thursday, October 7th, from the northbound A34 services area at Sutton Scotney.

M. Proust (48) was found in woods near Bullington Cross at lunchtime the same day after police had found his abandoned cab and signs of a struggle in a layby.

The lorry-driver has told police that four hooded men, wearing dark clothing, forced their way into his cab while he was parked and resting for the night.

M. Proust said he was assaulted and forced to remain in the cab as the lorry was driven four kilometres north of Sutton Scotney where he was told to get out.

Two of the hijackers led him through fields and wooded land, near Tidbury Ring.

M. Proust said he was held at various locations in the area before being freed around lunchtime on Thursday.

He was later treated at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital for minor injuries.

Police are still searching for the stolen brandy - a special Christmas edition of Three Barrels in a 2004 Christmas gift box.

More than 60 officers have been involved in "Operation Bangle", conducting enquiries including forensic examinations, searching the area and guarding the crime scenes.

Police are hoping that walkers may have seen either the men or vehicles in the area. "Even if you think something is insignificant, we need to hear from you," said a spokesman. "We also want to make sure other lorry-drivers are aware of this incident so they can be on their guard."
