Police are awaiting the results of DNA tests on bloodstains found at one of six homes burgled in Alresford last weekend.
They hope the results will lead to an early arrest.
Four homes in the same street and two others backing on to them were targeted by the thieves.
Police believe that the break-ins at Oak Hill, off Jacklyns Lane, are linked, as all the properties were entered by forcing rear windows.
Jewellery, including a gold engagement ring set with five diamonds, was taken from the first home. More jewellery, also of unknown value, was taken from the second and third properties.
The thieves made off with six porcelain figurines from the fourth home. Five are Royal Doulton pieces, while the sixth is Coalport. Each is worth £150, making a total of £900.
Inspector Steve Sargent, of Alresford Police, said: "We have a suspect in mind and hope that the results which are due today (Friday October 15th) will confirm our suspicions and we will be able to make an arrest."
